After more than a month I headed out to Disneyland and California Adventure. And for your viewing pleasure Mickey in his pilot uniform says hello to everyone!

Beautiful flowers as always at California Adventure.

Over by the Sky Cellar ivy climbing up the side of the building.

I tried taking several different views of the Mickey Ferris Wheel. I love taking photos with water reflection in them.

More water reflection.

Nope, I don’t get tired of it.

A new Asian fast food restaurant in Pacific Wharf, California Adventure.

Loved their dragon plaque.

How Disney keeps such a big area like Cars Land under wraps is beyond me. I rode Screamin’ to get a better view. Wow.

A new chocolate store is opening in Disneyland’s California Adventure. Yum.

It’s always easy to get on Ariel’s Underwater Sea Adventure in Disney’s California Adventure. Lots to take in in such a short time.

All kinds of fish antics going on here.

Pretty cute characters though.

Have to love a King no matter where he’s at!

Finally, Ariel!

It wouldn’t be complete without Ursula, and she’s a big one!

The finale of Ariel and Prince Eric kissing.

As if you couldn’t get enough of Ariel, she appeared on Disneyland’s Main Street as I headed out of the park.

I love horses, especially Clydesdales!

Surprisingly enough the parks weren’t that busy today, as evident by all the trams lined up in the parking lot.

So I was just a little bored today…..OK, I’m lying, I was super tired but still felt the need to make The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond’s famous pot roast which I just saw her demonstrate on her new Saturday cooking show “The Pioneer Woman Cooks”. The show airs this fall on Saturdays, on Food Network at 11:30 Eastern Time/10:30 Central time. Ree is just as cute on camera as she is on her website. If you haven’t read her blog about her romance with her husband you really should. If anything it will make you want to go all country, at least for a day.

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/09/2008_the_year_of_the_pot_roast/

So, as I was saying, super tired, gathering my cooking/food supplies and reach up into the cabinet above the fridge to bring down the large crockpot. We used to have a small crockpot, but after trying to cram entire meals into the super small one we had I broke down and bought a large one at Costco and haven’t been sorry since. Well, till now. I used to store the crockpot in the cabinet below our kitchen counter, but because my knees have recently decided that they are not a necessary appendage I moved the storage place where I thought it would be easier for me to get at. Certainly makes me look more attractive, reaching and stretching my body into a long lean machine to get……Right! laugh out loud or lol as it is popular to say!! When I stored the pot under the counter I always had to stick my a** in the air getting down on the floor and trying to get back up was just ridiculous, on all fours in the kitchen doesn’t look good no matter what the age!

With my body stretched high I grabbed the crockpot in both hands and started to bring it down when the lid, which I’ve always placed upside down in the pot, decided to slide off like molasses slides into the cookie bowl. All in slow motion I did a dance with the crockpot above my head, trying to recatch the lid in the pot and not drop the pot itself. When the heavy glass lid bounched off the top of my head I basically gave up and agreed to let the floor win. And now you know the rest of the story, the lid fell on the new tile floor and broke. But what you don’t know is how cool it looked when it did that.

Once the lid found it’s first target, my head, I gave up and emmediately saw a beautiful array of stars and a fuzzy blue sky. In that state I was somehow miraculously able to slow down time and watch the whole process of a large piece of glass beautifully breaking into a million little pieces. I likened it to watching a puzzle in reverse, the light from the kitchen window glistened on the clear glass pieces as they shattered and flew. And boy did they fly. That’s the one thing about a tile floor. You can slide easier on it in a pair of socks then you could on ice skates on a newly frozen pond. Dropped grapes literally roll into an unseen abiss. Maybe they join the socks that get lost during every load of laundry. Who knows, but they are never to be seen again. And dogs, wow! Now that is fun!! Throw a ball and watch your animal run like crazy in the same spot, then take off like a demon and slide right past their target. It’s hard not to be a little cruel and use your animal as a bit of lesiurely Sunday entertainment. The couch always feels softer and more cuddly when someone else is making you laugh.

Moving on to the Pioneer Woman’s Pot Roast recipe. First things first though. Cleaning up glass on tile. It is definately easier than trying to clean up a spilled mess on carpet, but it does seem more time consuming because of the glass flying factor. So now that the kitchen, TV room, and living room floors were swept and vacuumed I finally moved on to preparing the food for the roast. I will just say, after all is said and done this roast was delicious!! Now that’s what I’m talking about!!!

I recently returned a bracelet for repairs at one of my favorite jewelry stores, Brighton. As long as the item you are returning for is still in stock they will repair it for free, pretty nice deal if you ask me. I spent quite a bit of time in the store lusting after, trying on a few items, and in general enjoying all their beautiful, just out of reach jewelry. As I decided to exit while a lot of people were still shopping a sweet young girl caught my eye.

After I brought her home I made her a chain so she could hang around my neck and make me happy. awww………

Another great 4th celebration with our extended family the Bennets, Steve, Jill, Patrick and Alex. Jill is modeling a wrap I made for her upcoming birthday and vacation to Hawaii with her family. She looks beautiful as always! Matt brought Ms Yuki this time and she did wonderfully, which made her grandma so very happy. She even cuddled with Karen of Terry and Karen while doing the dishes. This made Karen very happy.

TNG, or The next generation, Matt the oldest center, missing his brother Jason…..Patrick next in age, and the up and coming Dr. Bennet to you mam! Yes Sir Dr. Bennet. To the right the 4th person and most recent to graduate from UCI. Jill started the trend, Matt followed, then Patrick and now Alex. loving this!

Terry San Cartier of Terry and Karen McCorkel, with his ever present “gotta have chips” and wine, true Terry. Jill an up and coming photographer with her camera and fun attitude, and Karen of T & K. She always has a smile on her face at parties as she loves them as much as I do!

A closer photo of Jerry in the Bennets hammock. We just put ours up and he spends ample time in it on the weekends too. Listened to some great tunes on Jill’s ipod in it’s dock. This gf rocks let me tell you! love it sister! And Steve, Jills other half, always a dry comedian with a look to follow. Hang on to your plates and drinks peoples he’s worse than the best resturant host, always clearing the table…I’m NOT done Steve! luv it…

Matt hanging in the kitchen with his girl, Ms Yuki, Jerry in the hammock, had to add a 2nd photo of my sweetie cause I luv him!

Taken by our one and only awesome graduated from UCI, our own offical photographer, Matt. I hired him to take our photo as I knew I had to have the best, and I wasn’t dissapointed. Had to have a photo of the 3 couples before T & K move away….

My absence as of late has not been due to a busy schedule, quiet the opposite. Instead I have been experiencing the darker side of my Fibromyalgia, a disease I’ve had for over 20 years.

It started quite some time ago when I began experiencing the unpleasant side effects of one of the newer drugs I was taking to treat the disease. I kept in close contact with my doctor and eventually changed from this new SNRI (serontonin-neropinephrine reuptake inhibitor) to another anti-depressant commonly use to treat Fibromyalgia. When the side effects of this new medication began taking its toll on me, my rheumatologist and I decided together to see how my Fibromyalgia would react without the aid of any medication, something I hadn’t done in years.

Going off these drugs must be done slowly, stepping down week by week until you are off of them. Even though I’ve been treating my disease with these medications for some time I would still have flare ups, some of them for what I knew at that time, to be fairly bad. By the second and third week stepping off this last medication I could tell the changes that were happening to my pressure and trigger points was unlike anything I’d ever experienced before. The hardest hit ones were in my calves and thighs, although my arms and shoulders were also experiencing extreme pain, tenderness and muscle weakness. And yet I honestly kept thinking it would get better, that I just needed to rest more. When I could no longer stand or walk because of the pain and weakness I figured it was time to call the doctor to make an appointment and had my awesome husband Jerry take time off work to drive me in.

I have been with this rheumatologist for a long time, trust her completely and was happy with our next plan of attack. Rest, change of medications, for both my fibromyalgia and my rheumatoid arthritis and a short course of steroids followed by a checkup. Oh and patience. Plenty of that. I am very fortunate I don’t have to work outside the home. Like I said before I am grateful and thankful for my awesome husband, without him I could not focus on my health. I am going to get better, it may take me longer than I like, but I am focused on that positive outcome.

For those of you who are skeptic about my course of treatment or who believe in alternative therapies, or even have a whole different idea of how one should go about treating this or any other kind of illness I will just say this. To each their own. I have tried many other kinds of treatments. I do not believe in using pain pills alone as treatment for my conditions. There are many theories on how to treat this disease, please do not judge me.

For some additional home massage treatment I use the items shown in the photo above. The hand held massager is one I’ve had for years, it is a Homedics brand and has several variable speeds. I have tried several other brands over the years yet keep coming back to this heavy duty massager as my favorite.

The tennis ball may seem like a impossible massage tool but placed inside a sock it can become very useful. Hang on to either end of the sock, lean up against the wall with the ball against your back on a pressure point and dig deep. Sweet relief!

The S Hook Massager can be found on line or at your local Mother’s Market. While not cheap, they work really well at quick release work on your pressure points. Excessive digging with this tool will only aggravate your pressure points so do be careful.

The large dense white massage roll is an excellent way to work on your back while getting an arm workout at the same time. They are also good for IT Band massage or glute massage. These rolls can be purchased on line or at a larger local medical supply in your area. Instructions on how to use them can be found on line.

I hope that by sharing some of my story you can better understand what it is like to live with this frustrating and silent illness, Fibromyalgia. Coupled with several arthritis’s, and Sjogren’s Syndrome it can be challenging at times. What you see is not always all there is. Be kind and patient, take time to look beneath the surface and I believe we will all be better for it.

Another visit with my dear friends Beth and Steve and I feel refreshed and loved to the core. I have known Beth and her awesome family for close to 30 years now and simply love them to pieces. Several times a year I head up to Jerry and my old stomping grounds, Torrance and plop myself in their guest room, allowing myself to be spoiled rotten. Steve sets up a wireless computer for me, we eat out, visit family, laugh, work on genealogy, visit, shop and rest. In general reconnect and be best of friends, sounds awesome doesn’t it? It is!

Beth and Steve’s daughter recently bought a house in Long Beach, a darling older home with lots of vintage charm. Sara and her boyfriend Dave along with kitty Lui are in the process of making it home, tackling project after project all while both working and Dave going to school. They must be young because just watching them do all this at once wore me out in the brief time I was there!

While at Sara’s, she allowed us to interrupt her painting of the kitchen cabinets long enough to clean her charming vintage chandelier. We didnt’ think to take a before photo of this awesome multi-gemed light, but as you can from the after pictures WOW!

Sunday was the yearly Pumpkin Carving Party held by Beth and Steve’s youngest son Luke and wife Diana. 13 pumpkins in all were carved, candy and food was in abundance and a good time was had by many. My pumpkin is the lady’s face to the left of the spider with web. It won the catergory “WTF” or “What The Face”. Beth was the judge. She arrives after all the carving is done so she doesn’t know who carved what. I just have one question….how does a Master Genealogist qualify as a Pumpkin judge? (Does it sound like I disagree with winning the WTF category-you’ll never know!)

Matthew brought Ms Yuki down and had dinner with Jerry and I tonight. Poor kid has been fighting a cold, sounds like the worst of it is behind him and now he just feels run down and tired. Ms Yuki on the other hand is a typical 2 1/2 year old, full of energy wanting to play catch and be the center of attention. Grams was of course happy to make sure that she got her fair share of loving from Yuki. She’s doing so well, running and jumping so strong. Her front right leg is getting really strong and her sense of balance is better every time we see her. I think it’s time for Matt to have a bit of time off to recoup, maybe some pt and even a vacation! Yeah, that’s it!
