There is a difference between the two you know? From the beginning when I sewed and hung the brown toile valance in the kitchen I always intended to some day paint the kitchen a pale turquoise. Finding that exact shade of paint that would go with the curtains and the brown granite wasn’t easy. The granite we chose has blue, green and turquoise flecks in it and while it in my opinion pops in contrast beautifully with the white kitchen cabinets there needed to be just one more contrasting color. It took painting 3 small sections with varying shades of turquoise in 2 different places on the walls and watching it over the course of a couple of days to finally make my decision. I needed to see how the direct sunlight during the day and the fluorescent lighting at night looked to be able to decide.
I originally saw an article in one of my favorite decorating magazines, Country Living, with several rooms in a house done up using similiar wall colors and valance material. I instantly fell in love with it and hung on to the magazine hoping to recreate it someday. I found the brown toile material at Wal Mart of all places and made a valance for the kitchen and adjoining TV room. I have an already existing accent color in both rooms as well as the living room, sort of a moss green, but it didn’t really add that interest of pop like I wanted. Since I have the turqouise in the living room in a more subtle fashion I decided it could work and would look good in the kitchen and TV room. Once everything is painted I will post a picture. That may be a while as we have vaulted ceilings in the living room, kitchen and TV room, and that equals a lot of painting!
